Student effort to receive matching gift check from local business, Tanaka Elementary to receive visit from Johnny Brenden

Media Contact: Tessie Poggione, PTA President: 597-9108 or Scott Bailey, Principal: 799-2504 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2005 Student effort to receive matching gift check from local business Tanaka Elementary to receive visit from Johnny Brenden What: Johnny Brenden of Brenden Theatres will be issuing the Thai Tsunami Relief matching gift check to our student body on Friday, February 25 at 1:45 p.m. We are adopting a Thai school, and offering assistance in their rebuilding project. Glynda Rhodes of Rhodes Homes and Annette Kinsman of Southern Hills Hospital will also attend for their generous sponsorship of the school’s effort. Shortly thereafter, Judge Nancy Oesterle will swear in our 2005 Student Council officers. Wayne Tanaka, the school’s namesake and a longtime educator in Clark County, will also be attending. When: Check presentation at 1:45, student inauguration to follow. Where: Tanaka Elementary multipurpose room, 9135 W. Maule, in the Southwest part of the valley Other info: On a rainy January 29, Tanaka students walked and raised $6,000 at the Fun and Fitness Walk-A-Thon, with $3,000 going to an adopted school in Phuket Thailand. Rhodes Homes and Southern Hills Hospital helped underwrite the cost of the effort. A school in Phuket was selected since the City of Las Vegas adopted it as its sister city in 1990. The name of the school will be announced on Friday. Johnny Brenden of Brenden Theatres then matched the donation for a total of $6,000. Photo opportunity available. -30-
